A PNEUMOCOCCAL VACCINE FOR ADULTS

CAPVAXIVE® is a single-dose pneumococcal vaccine that may help protect you against invasive pneumococcal disease.
CAPVAXIVE® helps protect against the strains of pneumococcal bacteria that caused about:
of invasive pneumococcal disease in adults 18–49 years old
of invasive pneumococcal disease in adults 50–64 years old
of invasive pneumococcal disease in adults 65 years and older
CAPVAXIVE® will only help protect against diseases caused by the types of pneumococcus bacteria covered by the vaccine. Please refer to the patient section of the Product Monograph for more information.
Why should I get vaccinated if I’m healthy?
Since the immune system weakens with age, by the time you are 50 you’re at a higher risk of getting invasive pneumococcal disease even if you feel healthy. This means that if you are infected, it will be harder for your body to fight the disease. A pneumococcal vaccine can help protect you from getting invasive pneumococcal disease.
Invasive pneumococcal disease may be preventable with vaccination
Vaccines help train your immune system to recognize and fight infections. CAPVAXIVE® works by helping your body make antibodies (proteins that fight infections) against certain strains of pneumococcus covered by the vaccine.
Who is CAPVAXIVE® for?
If you are above 18 years of age, you can receive CAPVAXIVE®. Your risk of serious pneumococcal infection goes up after age 50 and rises further after age 65. Talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist to find out if you are at risk of getting invasive pneumococcal disease and to see if CAPVAXIVE® is right for you.
